The Process Timber & Finish Quality & Peace of Mind Delivery Payment & Deposits Visiting UsThe Process
How do I get something made?
Contact us via the website form or give us a call. Calls can be hard to answer when we're near machinery, so if we miss you just leave a message and we'll get back to you by end of day. Emails are answered within 24β48 hours. It helps to have an idea of dimensions, the size of your space, and a rough sense of timber tone or style. We'll come back with a rough estimate, then work up a detailed quote.
I don't have a design in mind β can you help?
Absolutely. You're welcome to visit the workshop to meet Chris in person, or we can handle everything via email and phone. Either way, we'll guide you through the options and help you land on something you'll love.
I have a basic idea β can Kithe help fine tune it?
Yes. Share your ideas, rough dimensions, space restrictions, and storage needs and we'll draft a sketch and email it through for discussion. Most pieces go through a couple of rounds of refinement before we're both happy.
Can I make changes after placing my order?
Yes, provided production hasn't started. We'll always do our best to accommodate changes without adding costs, but if a change requires significantly more work or materials there may be a small adjustment to the price.
Timber & Finish
Do I need to know about timbers or finishes before contacting you?
Not at all. We guide you through it all. Timber samples and finish samples are available at the workshop so you can see and feel the result before committing.
Can I have something made in any timber?
Yes, if it's available and furniture grade. We specialise in Australian recycled and ethically sourced hardwoods from Melbourne demolition salvage merchants β so the timber often has real history to it.
Can I supply my own timber?
Usually yes β assessed case by case depending on the condition and usability of the timber. Get in touch and we'll take a look.
Why might my furniture look different to the photos?
Timber is a natural material β colour and grain vary from board to board. We don't apply stains, so what you see is what the timber gives you. Gum veins, knots, and colour variation are part of what makes each piece unique. Ash and Oak tend to be fairly consistent; Blackwood and Mountain Ash can vary considerably.
What do you use to protect the timber?
We use natural finishes that are water and dirt resistant, durable, and microporous β meaning they move with the timber rather than sitting on top of it, so they won't crack, peel, or blister. All finishes are safe for humans and animals once dry. Varnish or tints are used when required or specifically requested.
Quality & Peace of Mind
How will I know what the finished piece will look like?
We provide digital 3D renders before production begins so you can see exactly what you're getting. And if you're not 100% satisfied on delivery, we offer a full money-back guarantee.
What warranty do you offer?
A lifetime guarantee on craftsmanship, and a money-back guarantee if you're not completely satisfied with the finished piece.
Why is custom furniture more expensive than store-bought?
Every Kithe piece is handcrafted in Melbourne from quality recycled or ethically sourced solid timber, personally selected for your order. There's no flat-pack, no veneer, no shortcuts. You're buying a one-off piece built to last a lifetime β not something you'll replace in a decade.
I love a piece but it's out of my budget β what can I do?
Talk to us. Reducing dimensions slightly or substituting timber types can often bring the price within reach without compromising the design. There's almost always a way to make it work.
Delivery
How much does delivery cost?
Metro Melbourne deliveries are typically $150β$200. Interstate deliveries are quoted individually depending on location and piece size.
Do you deliver Australia wide?
Yes. We use experienced furniture transporters who know how to handle handcrafted pieces. Every item is wrapped and blanketed before loading.
I have stairs β will that be a problem?
Not at all, but please let us know when ordering so the transporters are informed and come prepared.
Payment & Deposits
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes β a 20% deposit is required to secure your order. This is refundable minus a 10% admin fee and the cost of any materials already purchased, if you cancel before production starts. The balance is due 3β4 business days before delivery.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes β Mastercard and Visa via the E-Way secure payment gateway. We also accept bank transfer, cash, and cheque.
Do you provide free quotes?
Always. And if you share your budget upfront, there's almost always a way we can work within it.
Visiting Us
Do you have a showroom?
No traditional showroom, but we welcome visitors to the workshop to meet Chris, see whatever's currently being built, and view timber and finish samples in person. It's the best way to get a feel for what we do.
Can everything be done remotely?
Yes. Many of our customers handle everything via email β we send progress photos throughout the build and the money-back guarantee applies regardless. You don't need to visit in person to end up with something you love.
